Postpartum deep sadness
Physical changes. After childbirth, a dramatic drop in hormones (estrogen and progesterone) in your body may contribute to postpartum deep sadness. Other hormones produced by your thyroid gland also may drop sharply — which can leave you feeling tired, sluggish and very sad.
Approximately 15% of new mothers will experience what is classified as postpartum depression (PPD). Signs may occur a few days after delivery or sometimes as late as a year later. Women who experience postpartum deep sadness will have alternating good days and bad days.
While any new mom can develop postpartum anxiety, those who are especially vulnerable include women with a personal or family history of anxiety or previous experience with depression, certain signs of PMS (such as feeling weepy or agitated), eating disorders, or excessive habits.
The signs of anxiety during pregnancy or postpartum might include:
-
Constant worry.
-
Feeling that something bad is going to happen.
-
Racing thoughts.
-
Disturbances of sleep and appetite.
-
Inability to sit still.
-
Physical signs like dizziness, hot flashes, and nausea.
How can hypnosis help?
Deep Sadness responds very well to hypnosis. The chemicals in the brain after pregnancy are a hormonal who’s who. With hypnosis, the subconscious can separate negative emotions from necessary and warranted ones. Hopelessness and helplessness can often be treated holistically so that happiness and mental health can be restored.
